A school campus rapid security assessment offers a condensed evaluation compared to a more comprehensive security, risk, and vulnerability assessment. It serves as an initial review, whether a previous assessment has never been conducted or a reevaluation is necessary. This customized rapid security assessment is founded on crime prevention through environmental design principles, emphasizing target hardening and root cause analysis, along with a preliminary review of standard operating procedures (SOP) and emergency action plans (EAP). During the assessment, prior incidents are analyzed, and perceived as well as potential threat vectors are identified.
At the conclusion of the assessment, a detailed set of field notes will be compiled to serve as the foundation for proposing improvements in physical security, SOPs, and EAPs.

GREEN – The current emergency management framework meets industry standards, including properly staged emergency equipment, posted and practiced emergency plans, effective use of technology, and strong collaboration with first responders.
YELLOW – The current security framework has minor to moderate issues that could impact liability, hinder risk management, or affect contract stability. Examples include minimal staged emergency equipment, deficient or rarely practiced emergency plans, outdated or ineffective technology, and insufficient collaboration with first responders.
RED – The current security framework has severe issues that pose immediate risks to liability, may be considered dangerous or negligent, and compromise the safety or security of individuals or property. Examples include little to no staged emergency equipment, lack of formulated emergency plans, minimal or ineffective use of technology, and resistance to meeting the needs of first responders.
Immediate benefits include reduced risk or liability, minimized loss of materials, decreased labor costs, improved efficiency, and potential reductions in general liability and workers’ compensation insurance premiums. Indirect benefits arise from preventing injuries or property damage from incidents that could cost tens of millions of dollars.
